Why a regular check matters

High blood pressure usually causes no symptoms at all, so a great many people have it without ever knowing. Left unchecked over time, it raises the risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney problems. A quick check is one of the simplest, most valuable things you can do for your long-term health.

In-store reading vs 24-hour monitoring

An in-store reading gives you an immediate snapshot in a few minutes. If your reading is high, or your GP has requested it, we can arrange 24-hour ambulatory monitoring - a small device you wear that takes readings through the day and night, giving a far truer picture than a single reading in the shop.

Understanding your numbers

  • Around 120/80 is a healthy target for most adults
  • Consistently raised readings may call for lifestyle changes or GP follow-up
  • A single high reading is not a diagnosis - it is the pattern over time that matters
What happens if it is high

Do not panic if a reading comes back high - it happens for all sorts of reasons on the day. We will explain it calmly, suggest a repeat check, and only recommend seeing your GP if the pattern warrants it.

Small habits that make a difference

  • Ease back on salt and cook from scratch where you can
  • Stay active - even a brisk daily walk helps
  • Watch alcohol, and stop smoking if you can
  • Protect your sleep and manage stress

Frequently asked

Do I need to book?

No - pop in any time during opening hours, or book a slot online.

Is there a charge?

An in-store reading is free. Ask us about 24-hour monitoring if you need it.

What is a healthy reading?

Around 120/80 is generally considered healthy, but we will explain what your own numbers mean for you.

Should I take my medication before a check?

Yes - take your medicines as normal. Try to avoid caffeine and rushing just beforehand, as both can raise a reading temporarily.

How often should I check?

If your readings are healthy, once a year is a reasonable guide. If they run high or you are being monitored, we may suggest more often.
